The nasty hobgoblin of Vágseiði

Mazuhn November 23, 2016

Rough sea, surrounded by steep cliffs, daylight begins to fade. Suðuroy, the southernmost of the Faroe Islands, Vágseiði on the west coast. How did I get here? Ferry route 7, ship M/F Smyril, from Tórshavn to Tvøroyri. Smooth passage? Not invariably the case, especially in the fall and in the dead of winter …

Just received a unique birthday present: Lamb Sally Brown

Mazuhn November 13, 2016

The Faroe Islands, located in the middle of the North Atlantic, home to 49.188 people and approximately 70.000 sheep. As from today, I'm the proud owner of one of these sheep. Auburn fur, smart facial expression. I named it Sally Brown, referring to Peanuts and the motto „Happiness Is a Warm Blanket“ …

Winter is on its way

Mazuhn November 6, 2016

A sheer veil made of snowflakes covering the top of the mountains in the course of this week, before it started raining again: Winter is heading for the Faroe Islands, with rapid strides. A time of year I have a thing for, maybe because I’m a child of the winter. It is incontestable that those months can be harsh on the islands …

Being shipwrecked: Reflection, rescue and reward

Mazuhn October 16, 2016

One rope, two vessels and a comforting sound. Chug-chug. A marine engine, lively doing its job. Our engine – the exact opposite. Stubbornly silent. Out of order. As quiet as a mouse. The bad news: We are shipwrecked. Disabled and adrift. Powerless. For hours. The good news: Our ship, the M/B Irdi, just has been taken in tow, by the Susanna …

I’m wishing on a star …

Mazuhn September 15, 2016

Half an hour ago. Eysturoy. Elduvík. Magic. Northern Lights. What a beautiful way to say „Goodnight“. Never can get enough of these Northern Lights. Hard to find, not easy to chase. Make you feel very small in this world. But also somehow connected to everything that surrounds us day after day. Earth. The planet we all live on …

A late season sunbath at Æðuvík Beach

Mazuhn September 1, 2016

Rocky shore, heated by the sun, pleasing bare feet. Shoes, socks, sweater - on the ground. Sky and ocean, different shades of blue, clouds pretty in pink. Officially, Æðuvík is the Christmas village of the Faroe Islands. As for me, Æðuvík, located on Eysturoy, is also one of my favorite places during late summer and fall …

Northern Lights: Dancers in the dark

Mazuhn August 18, 2016

It’s a rare phenomenon. But it does happen, even in the month of August. Beautiful Northern Lights, dancing across Faroese skies, right on our doorstep, in our bay. I have always been fond of the Northern Lights, way before I actually saw them for the very first time – in full strength, way up north in Norway. Now: Northern Lights above the Faroes …

Our wool project! Jackets, hoodies …

Jacket.jpeg

Together with some island farmer friends, we have set up a project, the Nordic Wool Factory. Beautiful things made of Faroese sheep’s wool and made for eternity. Jackets, hoodies, blankets, bags and such like.

Faroese sheep’s wool: a precious, renewable, sustainable and natural product, living up to former glory. Check out the German or English version of our Nordic Wool Factory website.

Community, philosophy, resources, design, pictures, sheep, videos, web shop, story. It’s all there. And we ship worldwide.
