The Funningur Approach: Coffee Talk With Høgni Reistrup

Mazuhn February 27, 2019

A peculiarly Faroese characteristic: talking about family, homeland and the meaning of life, which is what we did on that very day, and Høgni Reistrup certainly has picked an adequate place, the village of Funningur. Høgni: singer, musician, writer, editor, reporter, scientist, advocate of Faroese independence and Faroese language enthusiast …

Electro Pop! Rannvá Helenudóttir, The Woman Behind HULDA

Mazuhn August 17, 2018

Unintentional wave-like finger ballet performance, hands swiftly gliding across keys and controllers, easily generating beats, bass lines and different layers of mysterious dark sounds. Visiting Rannvá Helenudóttir, the woman behind the Faroese electro pop project HULDA …

Inseparable. The Islands and The Artist: Annika Á Lofti

Mazuhn September 6, 2017

Radiant smile, wind in her hair and that certain something. An afternoon with the Faroese artist Annika á Lofti. Coffee klatsch and gorge walk, pleasant and intense. Soon, we talk about the big questions, as for instance: knowing who you are and where you belong. Annika, born in 1983 in Tórshavn, raised in Sandavágur on the island Vágar …

The imaginative universe of Rakel Helmsdal

Mazuhn October 6, 2016

A fake feathered parrot. Little bells, strung on a braided cord. Cut out paper figures. Artificial sunflowers. Nail polish, transparent. Shelves full of clothes. Document files. Swarming butterflies, in the shape of stickers. A double meter stick. Piles of books. Pictures and a postcard-mobile. At the heart: Rakel Helmsdal’s study. Rakel, writer, puppeteer, artist …

Present knitting needles! Eileen Ejdesgaard, festival pioneer

Mazuhn August 26, 2016

Two cups of coffee, a table full of knitwear and one topic of conversation. The word itself implies what this wool-mountain-meeting is all about. Binding stitches, sharing skills and bringing people together: That’s the basic idea of the Bindifestivalurin í Fuglafirði. Eileen Ejdesgaard is one of the founders of the knitting festival …

Ocean rower Livar Nysted: „No time for babysitting out there“

Mazuhn June 29, 2016

No one to help. Nowhere to stop. Only the other side. Ocean rowing. One of the hardest sports in the world. Many say: the hardest of all. More people have been to space than have rowed the Atlantic Ocean. I’m just about to meet up with one of them. Livar Nysted (45). Faroese ocean rower and painter …

Anja Mazuhn, journalist, writer. German philology, political science and theater studies (Freie Universität Berlin). Axel Springer School of Journalism.

Having worked as a journalist for more than 20 years (i.a. DIE WELT), Anja wrote reports, travelogues and did interviews with the celebrities of Hollywood.

Together with her husband, she deeply fell in love with the Faroe Islands, and they bought a house on Eysturoy more than seven years ago – Anja’s second home. Urge to explore. In love with adventures, both on the large and small scale.

Our wool project! Jackets, hoodies …

Jacket.jpeg

Together with some island farmer friends, we have set up a project, the Nordic Wool Factory. Beautiful things made of Faroese sheep’s wool and made for eternity. Jackets, hoodies, blankets, bags and such like.

Faroese sheep’s wool: a precious, renewable, sustainable and natural product, living up to former glory. Check out the German or English version of our Nordic Wool Factory website.

Community, philosophy, resources, design, pictures, sheep, videos, web shop, story. It’s all there. And we ship worldwide.
