The Shortest Nólsoy Hike Ever

Mazuhn December 6, 2017

Actually, we had intended to go on a hike (lighthouse Borðan direction), but winter weather spoiled our plans, like already the very first hillside outside the village being completely covered with ice. Time to turn around and realize: Better safe than sorry. There’s always tomorrow …

The Wow Factor: Approaching 5 Of The Smaller Islands

Mazuhn June 8, 2017

Summertime, and the livin' is easy; Fish are jumpin' and the colors are bright. Faroe Islands, characteristics of place such as fog and rain: let’s drop that for a moment. This time, everything’s about blue skies, lush green cliffs and smooth passages. Approaching 5 of the smaller islands in picture-perfect weather …

Nightcap on Norröna

Mazuhn March 7, 2017

I saw the twinkling silhouette of Tórshavn embracing a shadow ship harbor under a black velvet sky. Nightcap on Norröna. As I was promenading on the deserted upper decks, a sea breeze sprang up. Inside: Dim light staging the ferry’s evening gown. The belle of the ball, ready for another waltz across the ocean …

Tjóðhild, Anna Malan, Barbara: A declaration of love to Nólsoy

Mazuhn May 25, 2016

The wooden door opens up, Anna Malan Jógvansdóttir (21) enters the room, sleeve of her jacket pulled over her left hand, carrying a bunch of nettles. Behind a counter, she puts the nettles into tumblers, gets herself a plate and boils water. Very shortly afterwards, we are sitting at one of the tables in Pakkhúsið hjá Petersen on Nólsoy …

Making new friends on the ferry Norröna

Mazuhn May 16, 2016

This morning, I was aboard when the ferry M/S Norröna reached the port of Tórshavn. On my way from Denmark, Hirtshals, to Faroe Islands, I made new friends. I’ve always loved travelling. As to me, it’s not only about discovering places. It’s always about meeting people, too …

A Change Of Plans In Hvannasund

Mazuhn October 25, 2015

Each time I get into my car in the Faroe Islands, there are two possible scenarios. Either: I know where I’m going. Or: I have no idea what I’m up to, but feel the urgent need for an adventure, encounter or discovery. That particular day started with an unpleasant incident. And ended with a fantastic ferry ride alongside Svínoy and Fugloy …

Helicopters, Hot Tubs And A Light Show In A Tunnel

Mazuhn October 6, 2015

And how do you get around on site?“ I will tell you. The basics. And insider tips. My personal highlight and favorite means of public transport in the Faroes? The helicopter …
