The Funningur Approach: Coffee Talk With Høgni Reistrup

Mazuhn February 27, 2019

A peculiarly Faroese characteristic: talking about family, homeland and the meaning of life, which is what we did on that very day, and Høgni Reistrup certainly has picked an adequate place, the village of Funningur. Høgni: singer, musician, writer, editor, reporter, scientist, advocate of Faroese independence and Faroese language enthusiast …

Mazuhn August 17, 2018

Unintentional wave-like finger ballet performance, hands swiftly gliding across keys and controllers, easily generating beats, bass lines and different layers of mysterious dark sounds. Visiting Rannvá Helenudóttir, the woman behind the Faroese electro pop project HULDA …

Rúni Brattaberg: From Suðuroy to the power centers of opera

Mazuhn April 26, 2016

In a church close to the shore of Skálafjørður on Eysturoy. In our village’s gorge, down at the North Atlantic. In the car. At the dinner table: I have heard Rúni Brattaberg sing many times. Also onstage. Rúni has made his way from Suðuroy, Faroe Islands, to the power centers of opera, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York City …

Hot tubs at G! Festival

Mazuhn April 2, 2016

Eysturoy. Music festival on the beach, part II. Another crowded place. Some of you have been asking about the hot tubs at G!: Well, this is what the fun looks like. So join the festival-crowd. But as I already said: You might also want to take a bath in the North Atlantic. That’s what I call refreshing …

G! Festival 2016: Join the fun. We already got our tickets

Mazuhn March 31, 2016

Here they are, right in front of me. Two passes for this year’s G! Festival. 14 - 16 July. For three days, the whole village of Syðrugøta will turn into a fantastic, cheerful and hip party. Some of the stages and party-zones are built right on the sandy beach. People jump into hot tubs, others take a bath in the North Atlantic …

John Carter Cash and his unique Nólsoy-"Folsom Prison Blues"

Mazuhn January 27, 2016

Although the Faroes are remote, you never know whom you might meet. One day, we went on a trip with our friend Birgir Enni and his sailing ship Norðlýsið. When we got close to the island Nólsoy and entered a huge cave with our rubber dinghies, a bunch of musicians came along, like: John Carter Cash. Video link to grotto concert included …
