Rocky shore, heated by the sun, pleasing bare feet. Shoes, socks, sweater - on the ground. Sky and ocean, different shades of blue, clouds pretty in pink. Officially, Æðuvík is the Christmas village of the Faroe Islands. As for me, Æðuvík, located on Eysturoy, is also one of my favorite places during late summer and fall – the season for extra strong colors.
Sunbathing right beside the sea, listening to the sound of the ocean, sitting at the edge of a rock crevice, watching sassy waves chat with mussels. Don’t miss having a picnic. On your way to Æðuvík, you will pass through Runavík. Stop by the Miðberg bakarí in Saltangará, buy some marble cake and keep going towards the southernmost tip of Eysturoy.
Did you notice? All the heather plants are in bloom, and curious sheep always around. A few more turns in the road, and you made it. There you are! Æðuvík harbor. Off the beaten track, simply beautiful and, in my opinion, a perfect beach. Therefore, I decided to call this delightful and rocky spot Æðuvík Beach. Yes, with immediate effect. Why? Between ourselves (wink-wink): With the Faroe Islands on the map – who needs this Miami-Beach-thing, anyway?
Cream, marzipan and more. Want to buy some cake for your picnic? You have come to the right place: Miðberg bakarí
