"The Faroese are People of singers and storytellers. And they love to celebrate. In their own way". That's what I say in my book „Meine wilden Inseln“ (published in German so far, by publishing house Piper Malik). An entire chapter describes how the Faroese celebrate, with whom, where, how and why. Actually, there is always a reason, especially when you live on a remote archipelago in the middle of the North Atlantic. G! Festival, Sailor's Day, birthday and wedding, music rehearsal, knitting festival, open stage/open mic, village festival, christening and, last but not least, Ólavsøka - and that is today. A feast that is many feasts in one: "Folk festival, church holiday, family reunion, procession, day of the opening of parliament after the summer break, church service, celebration of the nation, place of political speeches, music and folk costume joy, sporting event, rave. The last great celebration of the fading summer." Everyone is flocking to Tórshavn. And this is what the old city by the sea will look like in a few hours. My Faroe Islands ynskir øllum eina góða ólavsøku 🇫🇴.
