People from all over the islands gather together in the capital. I also drive to Tórshavn. One bridge and two tunnels later: Arriving in Tórshavn and promptly finding a parking space close to the harbor. Fantastic, same procedure as yesterday. What is this celebration, that is held for several days, about? It is a feast day, the opening of the parliament, a sports event and a folk festival, including Faroese chain dancing at midnight.
The more people you know, the more fun it is. Lots of residents wear gorgeous traditional costumes, just like Berit, Randi and Eyðun. Thank you for letting me show your pictures and costumes on my blog. I also liked Mikkjal’s style a lot. I accidentally met him on the street and asked him whether I could take his photo: He smiled and agreed. His profession: Musician, of course! My Ólavsøka-résumé: I have never seen so many Faroese in one place, all cheerful and friendly. This national day is fun.
