This year, it has been a long and very difficult winter. Many lambs didn't survive the harsh conditions. People in the Faroes are strongly depending on weather conditions. This week (it is supposed to be summer nowadays) my friend Poul Johannes, a farmer and craftsman, wanted to repaint one of the houses in our village. This took days and days and days – because of the weather. It changed from sunny to stormy to drizzle and sun again. And then it started all over.
If you plan to go for a hike and the weather is fine: Do it now. The washing machine has done it's job and you want your laundry do dry outside? Make sure you use enough clothespins. You are thinking about taking the ferry or the helicopter to Mykines? Don't get made if you end up being stuck there. The outer Island Mykines is a lovely place. You will have to stay there until winds and waves have calmed down. How long this will take? Ask Thor, if you can reach him. Or just wait. The weather will change again. That's for sure.
