A Bath In The North Atlantic (Brrr!) And Unexpected Company

Mazuhn November 22, 2015

Summer, sunshine and a sandy beach. I head for a deck chair under palm trees, order a fruit cocktail, throw my arms up in the air and hop joyfully into the water. Pardon me. I’m all mixed up. Must be a consequence of the adrenalin rush. Let’s start again from scratch: A day in November at Tjørnuvík beach. My brain starts to talk comic-tongue. Splash. Ahh! Brrr …

Fragile Artworks: Ole Jakob Nielsen Is The Wood Whisperer

Mazuhn November 16, 2015

Surf crashes onto the white sandy beach of Leynar. Heavy rain pours down, while gusts of wind race across grey skies. The weather rollercoaster gains even more speed, the ride leans into an invisible curve, it performs a nose-over, and then it lands on the grass roof of Ole Jakob Nielsen’s workshop. Visiting the Faroese artist …

Nightfall Boosts All Colors: A Surreal Scenery In Rituvík

Mazuhn November 9, 2015

Evening. Down at the harbor, a yellowish light brightens the paint finish of two boats. Waves are crashing majestically into the bay. Water rushes ashore, only to rejoin the tremendous sea again shortly after. Nightfall boosts all colors. A surreal scenery, exceptionally beautiful, and a magical moment at the harbor of Rituvík …

Swiss-born Karin Visth Is The Queen Of Wines In The Faroes

Mazuhn November 2, 2015

The sound of tires on gravel ground. A car door slams, followed by footsteps. Karin Visth (28) has arrived in our village, she is visiting, and she tells me joyfully that she is celebrating a special jubilee. Exactly two years ago, she began work as a sommelière at the Faroese gourmet restaurant KOKS …

Fond Of Rita Hayworth

This one wants to go to the movies. It’s fond of Rita Hayworth. It always buys a large box of popcorn and takes a seat in the front row. Whatever your plans are: Have a nice weekend. And if you need to get into a good mood: take a look at pictures featuring Faroese sheep …

The Colors Of Autumn

Mazuhn October 26, 2015

Grass: light braun, ruby-red, emeraldgreen. The wind is rising. Blustering waves down in the bay and the first snow on top of the mountains. Autumn in the Faroe Islands. And again, I am happy on these islands. No more words needed for this blog entry. But some more pictures …

A Change Of Plans In Hvannasund

Mazuhn October 25, 2015

Each time I get into my car in the Faroe Islands, there are two possible scenarios. Either: I know where I’m going. Or: I have no idea what I’m up to, but feel the urgent need for an adventure, encounter or discovery. That particular day started with an unpleasant incident. And ended with a fantastic ferry ride alongside Svínoy and Fugloy …
