The time has come. We are finally good to go. Because of that: On this occasion, a special island story needs to be told. The story of the Nordic Wool Factory. Beautiful things made of Faroese sheep’s wool and made for eternity. Jackets (picture above), hoodies, blankets, bags and such like (selection below). Together with some island farmer friends, we have set up a wool project, using the unique wool of the Faroese sheep, a precious, renewable, sustainable and natural product, living up to former glory. Nevertheless, an extremely difficult task to undertake, owing to the windswept wool’s characteristics. You might visualize our village being the centerpiece of this adventure. What has been no more than an idea in the beginning is now connecting several villages, farmers and friends in the Faroe Islands.
The sheep’s wonderful lanolin-containing thick wool is generated every year when the Faroe Island sheep are driven down from the mountains into the gates by people and dogs, and subsequently slowly sheared, with hand shears. This takes us hours, days. Until not so long ago most of the wool of the Faroe Island sheep was disposed of and burnt since the process was too tedious, the wool was difficult to process, and it was nowadays no longer in demand on the world market. With our work we return value to a natural and renewable resource. We exclusively use the natural colors of the Faroese sheep’s wool. None of the wool is dyed afterwards.
In case you feel like getting your piece of the Faroe Islands: Since recently, our Nordic Wool Factory website is also available in English, fully functional, the web shop included. Community, philosophy, resources, design, pictures, setting, sheep, videos. It’s all there. And we ship worldwide. Happy Easter!
