The true meaning of outstanding. Like: driving to the enchanted village of Saksun on Streymoy, I’m sure you’ve heard about Saksun, in order to zone out, appreciating peace, quietness and the magnificent view, and yet you haven’t heard about the aha moment that really blew my mind. Have you ever been to Iceland’s ice lagoon Jökulsárlón? I was lucky enough to visit the place on several occasions, once at night, after having sailed from the Faroe Islands to Iceland, 45 hours and 255 miles to do the crossing. Shortly afterwards, on my way to the Reykjavík airport, I stopped at Jökulsárlón and got out of the car, on the stroke of midnight. This is when I saw these amazing colors, 50 shades of ice-blue and frozen white. Now, why am I telling you this? No floating icebergs in the Faroe Islands, that’s for sure. But the same colors alongside the winding road to Saskun recently. A truly rare sight. Ice crystals, half-frozen water and bizarre shapes bathed in winter light. Short-lived Faroese winter wonderland. Already past again, Faroese weather is ever-changing and extremely moody. What remains? Pictures, a video, feelings and special moments being etched in my mind.
The Saksun winter wonderland. No longer present. But you can still be part of it. Because I took a video. You’re welcome to step inside the scenery. Link to the My Faroe Islands Video on my vimeo channel: https://vimeo.com/317019324
