Today, eminent film director Wim Wenders („Paris, Texas“; „Buena Vista Social Club“, „Pina“) has arrived on the Faroe Islands, together with his wife Donata Wenders and crew. For four days, Wim Wenders will be working on his film „Submergence“. „We are filming in Saksun and Gásadalur“, he told me. Familiar faces: I know him and photographer Donata Wenders from my former work as a columnist in Berlin.
The locations, Wenders has inspected and chosen himself. The award-winning filmmaker, author and photographer actually also wanted Mykines to be one of the shooting locations. But this will probably not work out, Wenders said, for time reasons, and because of ever-changing weather conditions. „Submergence“ is a romantic thriller which stars James McAvoy and Alicia Vikander. The Oscar-winning actress will join the shooting on the Faroe Islands.
